ALBERTA - Provincial Court, Family Division: Alberta (Director of Child Welfare) v. S.M.P. [2002] A.J. No. 1647

FACTS:  The Director sought the permanent custody of a child.  The mother, a minor, was deemed to be unfit to parent the child in question.  Dr. Vaz had delivered the child, and stated that the mother had consumed alcohol throughout her pregnancy.  As a result, Dr. Vaz suggested that the child might be suffering from Glossary Link FAS, although the child was too young to diagnose at the time.

HELD: The Director's application was allowed; no access was granted to the mother.
