ALBERTA -  Provincial Court, Family Division: Alberta (Director of Child Welfare) v. D.R. [1996] A.J. No. 1163

FACTS:  A pair of adoptive parents could no longer afford to pay for the care of their children, who suffered from Glossary Link FAS.  The parents initially worked with the Department but the financial burden associated with such care eventually became too great, and the children were placed back into the custody of the Department.  As a result, the Director put forth an application requesting that the adoptive parents cover the expenses associated with the care of the children.

HELD:  The adoptive parents were deemed to hold the same responsibilities as the natural parents regarding financial expenses related to the care of their children. Therefore, the adoptive parents were ordered to pay $100 per month.
